In October 2023, we received the permit to renovate one of the ruins on our land. We immediately began clearing out the ruin. However, the project was put on hold for nearly a year as other tasks took priority. Now, we’ve resumed work.
The house is built against a rock. Over the years, a thick forest of oak shrubs developed on the rock, with roots growing into the house through the cracks. To prevent further growth—or worse, water from seeping in when it rains—we decided to clear the rock completely. This turned out to be much more time-consuming than expected, as the large roots and soil we had to remove were quite substantial.
Since the front wall is fairly low, built for the people of that time, we decided to raise it. We used cement for stability since this wall will support the roof structure. We plan to raise the back wall next, then install the roof. After that, we’ll finish the side walls, windows, and doors before starting on the interior.
We’ve also removed several large pine trees behind the house, which posed a risk if they ever fell. Other projects continue to pop up that require our attention, so this renovation will take some time to complete.
